as i mentioned before we are staying with my dad, he very graciously offered to put us up rent free until we can save a deposit for a house of our own. thanks dad! we couldn't have realized this dream without your help and support. you see, the wedding kinda ate all our savings... it was totally worth it and we have no regrets - it's only money after all. now we start all over again. such is life, yes? i'm sure you can understand moving back in with your parents after living on your own for over seven years doesn't come without its challenges and is a huge reason i want to make our room our own - a little sanctuary we can escape to. also not working is seriously getting old fast and having a project to sink my teeth into is so darn exciting! i've spent the last couple of days searching the interwebs, gathering inspiration and playing around with decor in my head for our new space. gary keeps saying that i'm mad but boys just don't get that girls need to make pretty. throw in five months pregnant and you seriously start getting the picture. here's the vision... a room that all three of us will share and love. something light and airy, soft and comfortable with a dash of whimsy. below's my inspiration board. photo insperation_zps80bdb16f.jpgfrom left to right; one. white everything, sheer curtains, upholstered headboard. two. feature wall, white floating shelves, fairy lights, simple crib. three. featherland white fabric for upholstered headboard. four. triangle wallpaper. five. "wherefor art thou" illustration by bec winnel. six. spookasem illustrated card by happiness is. seven. illustrated typography card set by postick. eight. illustrated floating feather gift card by lauren fowler. nine. typography print by fieldtrip. ten. diy a-frame tent and faux sheep skin rug. eleven. heart garland by tinykiwicreations. twelve. cloud pillow by sewnnatural. thirteen. colour palette. fourteen. cloud mobile. fifteen. ceramic owl night light.  photo featurewall_zps23c368e4.jpg i'm a sucker for gray and white with pops of soft colours. our wedding is a dead give away... the picture above is the idea for the feature wall. white walls all round. i'll stencil on little grey triangles higgel-dee-piggel-dee add in a few peach and a mint just for a touch of colour variation and depth. i am going to paint our bed base and old tv dresser white and replace the door knobs with these crystal ones i used for my old desk revamp. the dresser will be for all the babies things and i'll use the top surface as a changing station. white floating shelves will hold beautiful prints and illustrations all framed in white frames (i am going to recycle thrifted, vintage frames and spray paint them white). a simple crib and our bed will be on the opposite wall. i found and amazing tutorial on a diy upholstered headboard that i'm dying to get going on. we wont have space for side tables so i'll make use of another extra long floating shelf for more prints, illustrations, photographs and reading lamps. i plan on making the baby a mobile using the heart garland and cloud mobile as inspiration. i'll make use of triangles, clouds, stars and moons cut from perspex in our colour palette to achieve this. i'll finish it all off by dressing the windows in sheer curtains allowing loads of natural light to filter in and adding a soft texture to the room. yay! how exciting. i'll photograph and blog diy's as i go. wish me luck lovelies!!!

our wedding: part one

please bear with me here, there were so many photos to sift through and choose from. how awesome amazeballs are they? angie and doug did a frikken phenomenal job. the day was utterly awesome.we chose the hertford country hotel not only because it is a charming, picturesque country hotel built from river stone but because it also holds sentimental value for me. They have a truly mouth watering menu (lemon meringue to die for) and provide such a wonderful service at a seriously affordable price. the staff are friendly and helpful and although we had a small drama, they went far and beyond to make our day truly memorable. we checked into the hotel the day before the wedding and began the really fun part (for me, at least), the set up. after months and months of meticulous planning, preparation and diy'ing sessions we got to see the "big picture" come together in all its whimsical glory. photo 20_zps3f8d8409.jpg photo 23_zps484d8cd6.jpg photo 22_zpsead48b0f.jpg photo 21_zps34a9192e.jpg photo 24-1_zpsb61728a3.jpg on the day we just had the flowers & bouquets left to do, then headed over to my aunts salon for hair an make up. we got dressed in the bridal suite back at the hotel, posed for some pre-ceremony photos and then it was go time. everyone kept asking, "are you nervous?" and my answer was invariably no. perhaps it was because i just about to marry my best friend and partner of 10 years? strange, because i hate, can i repeat that? hate! being the center of attention. i took my papa's arm and we headed outside then down the isle. handsome pants got all emo and teary eyed when he saw me. the ceremony was short and sweet. we said our our vows in front of the people that matter most in our lives. they clapped and cheered and showered us with rose petals as we exited the chapel. photo 25_zps6d1fae97.jpg photo 26_zps7cd336a9.jpg photo 27_zps874b272e.jpg photo 28_zpsabc774a2.jpg photo 29_zpsa44bc1d8.jpg portraits were snapped at the back of the venue, on "the road to nowhere" where we had put our battered old vintage chair. we chose it deliberately for effect and contrast against all the fancy getup. i believe it turned our just as envisioned.  photo 30_zpse706b3d8.jpg photo 31_zpsa2093f6f.jpg photo 32_zps3fee03a5.jpg photo 34_zpsfc52ce7a.jpg photo 35_zps698aca60.jpg photo 36_zpsb3a7e405.jpg we were welcomed into the hall as husband and wife. and then... oh gosh... did the heavens opened and hammer down epic hail. larger than golf balls. good omen? hell, gary and i will share one magical existence if the hail was anything to go by. the power cut out. the back up generator wouldn't start. we had 3 aircraft engineers standing outside in the pouring rain trying to fix it. i honestly thought my father was going to have a coronary. he was so angry. eventually my mom and stepfather popped home to fetch their generator and as they got it going (2 hours later) the power came back on. looking back it was amazing. we were served dinner by candle light (thanks bob for the 500 candles in the hall) and everyone carried on drinking, chatting and laughing. it was so intimate and kinda magical. by the time the power came back on everyone was in roaring spirits and totally ready to p. a. r. t. y. speeches were said. the wonky cake was cut. we opened up the dance floor to devendra banharts' "baby" and proceeded to dance the night away. the photo booth was such a success, some of my fondest memories are from messing around like school girls in there. photo 37_zpsff28dbdf.jpg photo 38_zpse4d1cac4.jpg photo 39_zpsa5ace627.jpg photo 40_zps2346985a.jpg photo 41_zps793dfe35.jpg photo 42_zps3adaa99d.jpg photo 43_zps567287d2.jpg photo 44_zps060fa70c.jpg photo 45_zpsae5de626.jpg photo 46_zpsf411a668.jpg photo 47_zps4ab13a70.jpg photo 48_zpse81085dc.jpg photo 50_zps197ec1df.jpg photo 51_zps6aaac98e.jpg photo 52_zpsfdf6e7e7.jpg photo 53_zps265bb31c.jpg photo 54_zps20bff02a.jpg all in all it was an unforgettable evening. my advice for brides to be: 1. don't sweat it, drama is gonna happen, embrace it. besides, what's a party without a little drama? 2. out of everything, splurge on a photographer! photos are all you will physically take away from this day besides your wedding dress which will hang in your cupboard, never to be worn again. 3. and this one may not be for everyone but do it yourself and rope your in bridesmaids. not only is it easier on the pocket but the fun afternoons spent with your girls, chatting and crafting will be forever cherished. p.s. for the life of me i cannot get the gosh darn gif to work... i'm pulling my hair out over here. when i figure it out i'll add it to this post. happy sunday homies.
