mr & mrs

yay! it's done and dusted and i am officially a barnard. it was an amazing evening filled love, happiness, tears, laughter, a little drama, dancing, splitzels (a story never to be told here) and very sore feet. i feel sorta weird now because i have so much free time... haha. not for long! we move to the 031 in a month! hellz yeah! we're going coastal. clever garrelz got a massive promotion and is heading up a new branch in durban. we are chuffed to the hills and cant wait to become fully fledged durbanites. we also have some other pretty life changing news but that is most certainly for much later. once we get our photo's i'll do a more detailed post but for now here are some of my favorites! spring has sprung

aaah, my season has arrived! sure today is exceptionally cold but it always happens this way; spring teases us with her sultry heat, blooms start to pop up all over and we break out our short sleeves... then it rains washing away all the dust, the wind blows and it get gets super chilly again just one last time. it has been poring down the last couple of days and yesterday mother nature gifted me with a rather spectacular rainbow. i am so happy we can finally say goodbye to dusty, dry, dead winter!!! it's my birthday on the 20th - i am a real spring baby. then in less than a month it's our big day - ga said to me the other day, "we're getting married next month." and i was all "!!!!!". we have some pretty massive news but i will share that after the wedding. cheers to blossoms, rainbows & new adventures! yes. the sun was shinning

long time, long time, and don't i know it. things have been somewhat, um, crazy. two family deaths, the larges veld fire we have ever experience, a great friend and groomsman in a motorbike accident, snow - in johannesburg!! and a wedding in less than three months! i got the invites out one time - i high flippen five to me! yesterday was womens' day here in south africa and i decided i was going to say a huge up your ziggy to the massive amount of work waiting for me in my studio and go out for a chilled day at some really great friends. we drank strawberry daiquiri's  watched the olympic free style dressage finals and watched our guys play ping pong. awesome. we managed to snap a few pics of our outfits before we left and this is what we wore. i am sitting here typing this with icy fingers... i despise it. i am yearning for the all-surrounding heat of summer. to wear one layer. to look out over the landscape and see green not dead dry brown and black. to sit out on the stoep and enjoy the simplicity of an afternoon braai (bbq). to marry the handsome who took these photographs. to set out on a whole new adventure with him. not long now. ♥

treasure

seven years ago I lost my grandmother. that's life. what gets me about death is how it can change people or rather expose who they really are and probably always have been all along. these pictures are like super extra crazy special because i thought they we lost to us. forever. thanks to a right old biddy of a great aunt some of our family heirlooms and treasures were retrieved, these photographs among them. i really love old photographs and the magic they posses to transport u back to a moment, a feeling, a smell, a sound. it is the most wonderful experience to gaze upon my grandmothers old faces, lovely old faces that had begun to fade in my memory, slip away out of my reach... i cannot actually describe what these photographs mean to me and how amazingly grateful i am to have them back. in my spare time i am scanning and for ever preserving these treasures and have decided to do a series of posts with my favorites. if you have posted or ever do post old photo's please send me a link. i wasn't kidding when i said i love old photographs and the imaginable sentiment they may hold. the first photograph is of my nana holding me as a baby. the second photograph contains four generations of my family on my dads side. not many get to know their great grandmothers, i adored both of mine. i cannot say why but i just kinda dig the over exposed bottom two.

weekend through instgram

happy sunday er'body! i hope y'all had a super weekend? ours was lazy and lazy and sleepy and snugly. it's been ages since we had a weekend like it and every second of snozzy pleasure was appreciated and relished. the top two shots are friday's gloomy sunset followed by a decadent pear and pecan tart with a generous dollop of cream. the bottom two are shadows cast on the bedroom blind & the arrow's arrived for gary's cufflinks along with other amazing etsy wedding loot.

diy: guest seating chart

hey y'all. i hope you guys had a super weekend i'll share a bit of ours and the market tomorrow. today i wanted to share how i made our guests seating chart for the wedding.

i can doodle. and doodle i do. but i am just that. a doodler. and so i rely on what works in cases like these. tracing. you will need:
     * a computer & printer to layout & print your desired table numbers (i used these free for non commercial
        use illustrated woodsy numbers, off of one of my favorite diy & freebee blogs, eat drink chic. these
        numbers will also be the actual table numbers on the tables) as well as the guests names - i gave the
        wedding party little titles and included the arrows and hearts that are a small but consistent detail
        throughout our wedding i.e. Sarah - Mother of the Bride
     * a light box if you have one (my handsome built me one specially out of wood, perspex and a
        light fitting. You could use a glass top table with a small lamp underneath)
     * small doilies (reoccurring lacy detail)
     * ribbon
     * mini pegs
     * a pen of your choice
     * a board painted in your choice of colour or custom design - this isn't the actual board we will use but it
        was the inspiration behind this idea. we will need about three boards and i want to do them in pastel
       watercolours.
Photobucket
Photobucket
step one
trace out all of your names and table numbers onto the doilies.
Photobucket
Photobucket
step two
string a length of ribbon across the board and secure with pegs on each side. each row will represent a table and will have the table number followed by each guests name pegged onto it. i suggest you do a tester line to figure out what dimensions you will need to make you board. i could fit four tables on a board this size.
Photobucket
step three
as mentioned above, start with your table number and peg it to the piece of ribbon followed by all the guests who will be seated at that table.

this took all of an hour to make. and probably cost me under 200 south africa rand ($23 USD). not bad going. and it's pretty. if you try it out or are inspired to do something different please let me know so i can take a look, i would love to see your creations!
